At the 7th Shanghai International Automotive Lighting Exhibition (ALE) in 2021, Hella brought a series of the latest automotive lighting technologies. It covers headlamp systems for the mass production market segment and the luxury market, including the next-generation chip-based headlamp matrix system SSL 100 and SSL | HD.
It is reported that the SSL 100 lighting system provides up to 102 pixels, arranged in 4 rows. Each pixel can be activated individually. The greatest benefit of this distribution is that the adaptive driving beam avoids dazzling other road users. Since mid -2020, SSL 100 headlamps have been put into production at the lighting plant in Jiaxing, China.
Another SSL | HD technology is a further upgrade to SSL 100 technology. It can further reduce the light source, so that more than 30000 LED pixels can be controlled independently and intelligently, and the projected picture is more complex and clear. At the same time, it provides more flexibility for OEMs in personalized vehicle design, such as more compact products.
It is worth mentioning that SSL | HD technology can also bring new business models to OEMs. Lighting products equipped with this new technology generally become the standard function of the whole vehicle, but they will be activated and charged only when consumers have demand. SSL | HD technology lights will be the first to be put into production in Europe, and then will be put into production in China in 2024.
